HKS401-M23 FAQ

1.How do I connect my devices to the HKS401-M23?

  • When connecting your devices to KVM, each computer should be connected to KVM using one 8K KVM cable (each consisting of an 8K HDMI cable and a USB cable). The monitor should be connected to KVM using one 8K HDMI cable.
  • There are four KVM cables (each consisting of an 8K HDMI cable and a USB cable) in the product package for all PC-to-KVM connection, while the 8K HDMI cable for KVM-to-Monitor connection need to be purchased separately. (Please noted that we recommend using an 8K HDMI cable that supports 8K resolution)

2.What refresh rates does this KVM support at 8K, 4K resolutions?

  • This HKS401-M23 supports HDMI 2.1, HDCP 2.1, with a maximum bandwidth of up to 48Gbps.

          1)7680x4320@30Hz                 8bit

          2)3840x2160@144Hz               8bit

          3)7680x4320@60Hz  (DSC)      8bit

  • Press [Hotkey + Hotkey + F1], then press any key within 5 seconds to set it as the hotkey.

4.What to do if the hotkey is not working?

  • Please check if the keyboard is plugged into the USB 3.0 port of the KVM.If so, make sure the keyboard is connected to the dedicated keyboard port on the rear panel (with keyboard and mouse marks).
  • The default hotkey for the HKS401-M23 is the right Ctrl. If you need to use a different hotkey, please customize the hotkey settings accordingly.
  • It supports the keyboard and mouse pass-through mode and legacy emulation mode. Pass-through mode has good compatibility with the mainstream keyboard on the market, but with the iterative upgrading of the keyboard and mice, it is inevitable that there are some models of keyboard and mouse which have potential compatibility issues with our KVM, to improve compatibility, we have added legacy emulation mode.
  • If you encounter issues with the keyboard and mouse in pass-through mode, please connect a basic keyboard and switch to legacy emulation mode using the hotkey [Hotkey + Hotkey + F2]. This mode enhances the compatibility of the keyboard and mouse. Once set successfully, you can reconnect your original keyboard and continue using it.

5.What is the difference between the keyboard and mouse pass-through mode and legacy emulation mode, and how do you switch between them?

  • Legacy emulation mode provides the PC with preset basic keyboard and mouse information, ensuring basic functionality while improving compatibility. This means that the computer will not recognize the keyboard and mouse, and the control software of keyboard and mouse will not work.
  • If the keyboard and mouse function correctly in pass-through mode, it is recommended to use pass-through mode.
  • The default keyboard and mouse mode is Pass Through mode. You can switch them using the hotkey [Hotkey + Hotkey + F2]. When press the hotkey, two beeps indicate entry into legacy emulation mode, while one beep indicates entry into pass-through mode.

6.Can the USB 3.0 port on the front panel charge my computer? What’s the power output?

  • The USB 3.0 port on the front panel features a built-in charging module that can charge your phone, tablet, and other devices with a maximum output power of 7.5W.
  • It is designed according to the BC1.2 protocol and can automatically adjust the voltage and current to match the specifications of the charging device, ensuring safe charging.

7.Why can't I hear any sound when I plug my audio device into the 3.5mm audio port of the KVM?

  • For HKS401-P23 which has a dedicated microphone interface or headset interface, the audio signal is transmitted via the USB channel. Please make sure that you have selected the correct USB audio device in your computer's audio settings.

8.Why are my monitors displaying a black screen when I connect my devices to the KVM?

  • Connect the PC directly to the monitor, bypassing the KVM switch, to check if they work properly. If not, the issue might be with the input device, the monitor, or the cables. Try replacing the monitor and the cables connected to the KVM.
  • If a specific input source is not displaying, swap this input port with other working input sources to see if this input source displays correctly.
